Sycamore

Acer pseudoplatanus

The sycamore is Europe’s largest maple, growing to 35m. It is a hardy tree, tolerant of salty winds and provides excellent shelter for livestock when mature.

Do not park your car under a sycamore or you will find it covered in honey dew from the millions of aphids that feed on its large juicy leaves.

Look out for tar spot fungus which commonly grows on sycamore leaves.

Care should be taken not to confuse it with other maples with similar leaf structures.
