Gorse flowers
There are several different types of gorse on Bidston Hill: european gorse, dwarf gorse and western gorse. The latter gives us our heathland designation of western lowland gorse.
The flowers can be used to dye wool, and smell strongly of coconut.
Crushed gorse was originally used as animal bedding and to remove worms from the system.
