It’s only a few days to our Midsummer Family Picnic. It’s all happening on Saturday 20th June, from 12 noon onwards. We’ll meet at Tam O’Shanter Urban Farm. Bring your own picnic. There will be a Nature Treasure Hunt for the little ones, and a Spiral Dance for all ages. Do wear sensible shoes as the ground is uneven and the grass is long. If the weather is bad, we’ll have to cancel, as picnicking and dancing in the rain is no fun. If in doubt, check on this website. Here’s an updated poster to share with your friends.  

Bidston Observatory is for sale. We are most concerned about the potential consequences for Bidston Hill, and we disapprove of the manner in which the sale is being conducted. An advertisement appeared in Wirral News last week. The land on offer includes the Observatory and car park, as well as the site of the former Braehead Cottage. The car park and Braehead Cottage site are being marketed as potential development sites. Prospective buyers have only until 30th November to make their “best and final offer”, and to demonstrate that they have funds in place. Have you noticed the black-and-white plaques that have recently appeared on the Heritage Trail posts? These are QR codes. QR, or Quick Response, codes are a kind of two-dimensional bar code that encode text. We’re using them to encode the URLs, or web addresses, of the Heritage Trail pages. Most smartphones have apps that can read QR codes and bring up the matching web page in your smartphone’s web browser. Happy Trails!

We are pleased that our long-awaited website is now live and I would like to thank all committee members, Friends and Park Rangers for their input. Over the coming months the site will be developed and announcements of activities and planned events on the Hill will be posted.
